20th March 2020, India. Prime Minister has just announced a 21 day nationwide lockdown to stop the spread of Corona virus. The film is an observational account of a desolate film institute campus. The spaces which were once swarming with young film students are now empty and frozen. There is no sense of progress of time. The only things that have kept this space still alive are the wildlife and the animals on the campus. Delving between the boundaries of realism and magic realism, the film depicts obvious and mundane everyday life cycle of the campus over a period of 21 days through intriguing audio-visuals.
Director Biography -
Liya Hitesh is professor of Cinematography at Satyajit Ray Film and TV Institute. He teaches Cinema as a Visual Art by simplifying scientific techniques and blending them with the knowledge of visual aesthetics. He has a keen interest in short film making and exploring the craft of cinema as a visual medium. While studying Cinematography at SRFTI, he selected as a student participant for the coveted, ' 5th VGIK International Summer School ' (2013) on Documentary film making at the Russian State University of Cinematography (VGIK), the oldest film institute in the world.
Director Statement
The idea of this experimental short film germinated in my mind when I was shooting the space around me with my camera as a lockdown pass time activity. I added an element of magic realism and satire to the film by merging the news reel audio with the visuals.
