In a distant future of humanity, the Emperor takes control of the planet Arrakis from the cruel House Harkonnen to give it into the hands of the noble House Atreides, whose popularity continues to grow in the rest of the Imperium. Arrakis, also called "Dune", is the only source of the most precious substance in the universe, the "spice": a dust, present in the sands that cover the planet, which makes interstellar travel possible; it is also held sacred by the natives of Dune, the Fremen, due to the psychic effects it has on humans.
